THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has enhanced the minimum wage from Rs.125 to Rs.160 a day, Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan has said. Replying to questions in the Assembly on Wednesday, Mr. Gurudasan said the government had issued orders in this regard. Local Administration Minister Paloli Mohammed Kutty said that those seeking jobs under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act were getting Rs.125 so far, but hereafter, they would be eligible for getting the enhanced wages. The EMS Housing Scheme would be completed by 2011. Considering the increase in land price, the government was thinking of increasing the allocation to buy land for the housing scheme. Vacancies of village extension officers would be filled within a fortnight. The Haj quota for the State in the current year was 7003. He said the State would press the demand with the Centre for amending the norms for the Centrally-sponsored schemes. The government had approved 18 master development plans and 113 district town planning schemes. The zoning regulation norms of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Thrissur and Kozhikode and the Cochin Structure Plan, meant for Kochi city, had been cleared by the government. Vigilant committeesHome Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said the norms prepared by the Director-General of Police for forming ‘highway jagratha samithis’ were being studied by the government.
