This Day That Age
President Eisenhower said at his Press Conference in Washington on July 8 that the United States continued to hold its firm position of respecting its responsibilities and making certain that it retained its rights in Berlin. It certainly wanted to find some way of reaching a solution that would not keep the whole world on edge. The President who was asked if he saw any change in the prospects for reaching some kind of an agreement with the Soviet Union on Berlin, when the East-West Foreign Ministers’ talks resumed on July 13 and any change in the prospects for a later Summit meeting, replied he thought there had been no change in the United States’ attitude, which had been outlined by Mr. Christian Herter, the Secretary of State, in his televised address to the nation on June 23.
