dated July 9, 1959: Late Kasturi Srinivasan

The White House said on July 7: “The Press of the free world has suffered a tragic loss” in the death of Mr. Kasturi Srinivsan. Conveying President Eisenhower’s condolences to the bereaved family, Mr. James Hagerty, President’s Press Secretary, in a message to your correspondent says: “All of us at the White House were saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Kasturi Srinivasan, Editor and Publisher of The Hindu. The President has asked me to extend through you his personal regrets to Mr. Srinivasan’s family and to members of the staff of The Hindu. Indeed the Press of the free world has suffered a tragic loss. The President remembers with a great deal of pleasure his meeting with Mr. Srinivasan here in Washington in June 1947. The world can ill afford to lose such an outstanding man. May I also express my own feeling of sadness and regret?”
