“For failing to complete Games projects on time” NEW DELHI: The Leader of the Opposition in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Jai Kishan Sharma, has alleged that the civic body has failed to complete any of its projects for the upcoming Commonwealth Games. However, Municipal Commissioner K. S. Mehra clarified that work on the projects was progressing as per schedule. Addressing a meeting of the MCD Standing Committee on Wednesday, Mr. Sharma said: “The Games are fast approaching but none of the MCD projects is anywhere near completion. These projects include the Jama Masjid redevelopment plan, multi-lot parking, Jawaharlal Nehru Marg up-gradation, construction of community toilet complexes and installation of uniform sign-boards among others.” In response, Mr. Mehra provided a comprehensive status report on all Games projects and reassured that the civic body would be able to complete the projects in “record time” before the event: “The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, where parking space is being built by covering the nearby drain, would be completed in record time. The beautification of 23 roads will be completed before the Games. First phase of streetlights installation is already over.” “Construction of 16 railway under-bridges and over-bridges and 24 conventional parking and 16 mechanised parking sites is in various stages of progress.”
