More APL rice for State
New Delhi: The Centre has extended an additional monthly allocation of 19,000 tonnes of rice to Kerala for distribution to the Above Poverty Line (APL) families and it will continue till March 2010.
However, it said that the State had to pay the economic cost of the rice (Rs.17.90 a kg) for the additional allocation and not the Central Issue Price, which is Rs.8.30 a kg.
“For 2009-10, ad hoc additional allocation of 19,000 tonnes of APL rice a month has been continued till March 2010 over and above the existing monthly allocation of 17,056 tonnes of rice under this category,” a statement from the office of Minister of State for Food K.V. Thomas said on Thursday.
Any additional allocation could be considered at applicable economic cost, it said. — PTI
