Rimita ousts Khiranki

KOLKATA: Top-seeded Subhankar Dey of South 24 Parganas beat unseeded Sarbojit Bhowmick of West Calcutta 21-11, 21-17 to enter the final of the all-Bengal senior State-ranking badminton championships here on Thursday.

Unseeded Sourav Chatterjee of East Calcutta, who downed second seeded Diptiman Chowdhury in the quarterfinals, also moved in to the final with a hard-fought win 29-27, 21-17 over Dipayan Saha, also of East Calcutta.

In the women’s section, top-seeded Khiranki Sengupta of Purba Midnapore was sent packing by unseeded Rimita Dutta of the same district. Khiranki lost 21-12, 19-21, 15-21.

The final will be an all-Purba Midnapore affair with Rimita taking on second seeded Rituparna Das, who beat Sanchali Dasgupta of West Calcutta 21-15, 21-15. — Principal Correspondent
