Central in semifinals

Bangalore: Central’s better batting display as evident in Ankit Lamba’s 91 and Manoj Singh’s 70 along with inclement weather spoilt South’s hopes of qualifying for the semifinal of the Raj Singh Dungarpur Trophy NCA inter-academy under-19 tournament in progress at the IAF Ground here on Thursday.

Central notched its second consecutive victory to top Group A and enter the semifinal while South made its exit after suffering two losses.

Central won on the basis of better run-rate after rains played spoilsport during South’s chase. Central scored 247 for five in 45 overs and South had scored 122 for five in 28 overs when rain stopped play. Subsequently Central, with a run-rate of 5.48, was declared as the winner while South (4.35) failed to make the cut.

In the semifinals here on Friday, Central will play against North while West will take on East.

The scores: Central 247 for six in 45 overs (Ankit Lamba 91, Manoj Singh 70, Regan Pinto three for 47) bt South 122 for five in 28 overs (Akshath Reddy 47, Vijay Shankar 27).
