CPI(M) owes explanation on Mangalagiri issue: CPI

HYDERABAD: The CPI State committee reiterated that the CPI (Marxist) leaders owes an explanation for fielding their nominee from Mangalagiri Assembly segment which was given to the CPI as part of understanding among partners of the Grand Alliance.

CPI State secretary K. Narayana told reporters here on Thursday that the CPI(M) leaders could not dismiss the issue as a ‘closed chapter’ and they should clarify their stand on the issue as their action was in violation of the agreement reached among the alliance partners.

Dr. Narayana faulted the CPI(M) for its reported claims that each party had its own strategy in elections asking “where is thneed for forging an alliance if that was the case?” The CPI leader criticised the Telangana Rashtra Samiti leaders for claiming that the Left parties had ‘spoiled’ the atmosphere before elections. The TRS, which secured more seats ‘intentionally’, fielded weak candidates in several constituencies and the CPI was ready to prove this. Moreover, TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao attended the meeting of the NDA with a firm belief that it would come to power. “The BJP had doubts over its senior leader L.K. Advani becoming the Prime Minister, but Mr. Rao did not,” he said.

Price rise

Dr. Narayana announced the CPI decision to stage protests against price rise. He charged the government with showing “lip sympathy” over the steep rise in prices of essentials.

The CPI, he said, would stage dharnas peacefully, but would not hesitate to raid godowns to unearth stocks of essential commodities hoarded by traders if the government did not act on them.
