Engineering Graphics paper was cancelled, students disappointed

Vice-Chancellor is said to have ordered an inquiry

DAVANGERE: An examination question paper (second semester) of an engineering course at BDT Engineering College here appears to have been leaked before the examination was held, here on Friday. The college authorities, in consultation with senior officials of Kuvempu University, had the paper cancelled.

Over 280 second semester students were writing the ‘Engineering Graphics’ examination when the college authorities suddenly declared that the paper was cancelled owing to the leak. Minutes after the examination began, staff of a television channel met principal of the college Suresh Chandra Mohan and showed him a question paper, in their possession, that tallied with the one the university had set. Suspecting foul play, Mr. Mohan immediately contacted authorities in Kuvempu University to which the college is affiliated, and had the paper annulled. Unlike other engineering colleges in the State, BDT Engineering College is affiliated to Kuvempu University and has not yet been subsumed under the Visveswaraiah Technological University. Engineering Graphics is a common subject for second semester students of engineering and it was a four-hour paper for 100 marks. Many students have expressed their disappointment over the situation as they were keen to get on with their examinations.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university and the Registrar (Evaluation and Administration) were away in Delhi to attend a meeting.

The examination will be rescheduled only after their return.

However, the Vice-Chancellor is said to have ordered an inquiry into the incident, from Delhi.
