Unity: The ABVP activists staging a protest in Shimoga on Friday. Shimoga: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists staged a demonstration here on Friday in protest against the collection of development fees by DVS Polytechnic. The protesters formed a human chain at the DVS Circle as part of their protest. According to the protesters the management of the polytechnic college had collected Rs. 2,000 in excess of the required amount in the name of the development fee. The activists demanded that the “excess” fee collected be refunded. They also insisted that the management should not collect any development fee. Later the protesters submitted a memorandum in this regard to the Deputy Commissioner. In the meantime, there was a verbal clash between the protesters and the Assistant Commissioner Nagaraj, who is the administrator of the Deshiya Vidya Samsthe (DVS). The protesters alleged that the management of the polytechnic college was collecting donation totalling Rs. 60,000 for a diploma seat. Mr. Nagaraj refuted the allegation and offered to resign if it was proved. However, Mr. Nagaraj was taken aback when a student produced a receipt which mentioned that he had paid Rs. 60,000 as donation. Mr. Nagaraj announced that whatever amount had been collected as development fee would be refunded to the students.
