CPI seeks steps to control prices

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Communist Party of India (CPI) on Friday staged dharnas across the State before district Collectorates and mandal revenue offices, demanding that the government take firm steps to control the spiralling prices of essential commodities.

In the State capital, party secretary K. Narayana regretted that the government was turning a blind eye to the acute suffering of people unable to cope with skyrocketing prices. He wanted stringent action against black-marketeers and also necessary amendments to the Essential Commodities Act so that punishment would serve as a deterrent to those looking to make a fast buck at the expense of poor people.

To raid godowns

Mr. Narayana told presspersons that from Saturday, party cadres across the State would virtually raid godowns of the Food Corporation of India.
