2 arrested, rice seized

Tirupur: The police have seized 150 kg of rice allegedly procured illegally from fair price shops, near here, on Friday and arrested two women in this connection.

Police sources said that R. Lakshmi (30) and R. Amutha (40) were taken into the custody at a check post under Dhali police station limits while trying to illegally transport the rice.

They were apprehended under the Tamil Nadu Scheduled Commodities (Regulation of Distribution by Card System) Order, 1982 and the Essential Commodities Act, 198, sources in the police added.
