HYDERABAD/WARANGAL: The mortal remains of Budde Kiran, the techie who succumbed to bullet injuries sustained in an attack in South Africa, were consigned to flames in Arepally village, 15 km away from Warangal on Saturday, but not before lack of proper communication delayed arrival of the body by a full day. The body of the engineer, who breathed his last in a Johannesburg hospital, arrived at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport by an Emirates Airlines flight on Saturday morning. Budde Ganesh, brother of the deceased engineer, received the body after completing the necessary formalities. The victim’s family spent tense moments as the body, which should have arrived in Hyderabad on Friday was held at the Johannesburg airport due to a communication gap. According to Mr. Ganesh, the Indian High Commission in South Africa failed to pass on the information about the need to send information about the receiver of the coffin. As per the formality, a photo-identity with signature of the receiver should have been sent to the Johannesburg airport. It was only after the Warangal SP V.C. Sajjanar informed Mr. Ganesh about the need that the relevant papers were sent across to South Africa. Only after the fax message was received in Johannesburg was the body flown to Hyderabad. Poignant scenes were witnessed at Arepally as the mortal remains of Kiran arrived at his residence in the afternoon. Parents, relatives and friends of the victims broke down on seeing the body. Kiran’s parents Shankaraiah and Indira, sobbed inconsolably. Last respectsElected representatives who paid their last respects included MLC P. Padmavathi, MLAs G. Venkata Ramana Reddy and B. Saraiah. Collector N. Sridhar and Mr. Sajjanar paid floral tributes. Later, the body was taken in a procession as hundreds of villagers bid a tearful adieu to the slain engineer. Earlier, Minister for Major Irrigation Ponnala Lakshmaiah laid a wreath on the body when it was taken through Jangaon town.
