Youth’s death triggers protest

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Osmanuddin, 23, who was hit by a government vehicle being towed away for repair two days ago at Masab Tank, succumbed to his injuries at the Osmania General Hospital on Saturday.

The death sparked protests by the victim’s family who staged demonstration before the Humayunnagar police station demanding arrest of the driver. The agitation led by the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen legislators Afsar Khan and Virasat Rasool Khan was called off after the Humayunnagar Inspector, Pratap, and higher officials assured action. A data entry operator with a private firm, the victim was crossing the road near NMDC bus stop when the accident occurred. He apparently did not see the steel chain that was tied to the vehicle being towed. He fell on the road after hitting the chain and suffered injuries as the vehicle went over him.
