Ascertain reasons for vote low vote percentage: DS

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee has started identifying the shortcomings within the party and the government that resulted in a vote percentage that was not up to the expectations.

Though the Congress government had initiated a series of welfare programmes covering all sections during its previous term, the party could not secure 50 per cent vote on the expected lines. “There are some shortcomings somewhere and we are trying to identify them,” APCC president D. Srinivas said.

In an informal chat with reporters here on Monday, he made light of Praja Rajyam president K. Chiranjeevi’s claim that TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu should take the initiative in uniting the Opposition parties. The Congress was in a comfortable position with 155 seats while it had the support of 10 other well-wishers in the Assembly.
