Kozhikode: The participants of ‘Vazhiyorukkam’ (preparing the path), a four-day camp aimed at moulding new leaders among college students, donated their blood to the Medical College Blood Bank after visiting the bank here on Monday. In an interactive session in the morning, T.N. Seema, member, State Gender Board, shared her views on ‘Democracy and empowerment of women’ with the camp members. Classes by Abdul Aseez, lecturer, Sir Sayed College, Taliparamba, and management trainer A.P. Nisam on ‘Individual talent and group synergy,’ besides an interactive session with City Police Commissioner S. Sreejith, marked the afternoon session. The participants also worked for the production of a camp magazine incorporating literary entries of the participants in the afternoon session. For Sruthi Soman, a BA Literature student of St. Mary’s College, Sulthan Bathery, the camp provided an opportunity to introspect on her creative roles in social engineering. P. Surjith, a BA History student of Malabar Christian College here, said the camp had inspired him to dream for a better society. “I feel an inspired man now,” Surjith said. Eighty-two students selected from 50 colleges affiliated to the University of Calicut are attending the camp, being organised by the Kerala State Youth Welfare Board, the National Service Scheme and the University of Calicut on the campus of the Centre for Information and Guidance India at Chevayur here. Calicut University Vice-Chancellor Anwar Jahan Zuberi will inaugurate the valedictory function of the camp here on Tuesday.
