Plea to scrap levy on gold-covered ornaments

Special Correspondent

KOZHIKODE: Merchants selling gold-covered ornaments have appealed to the government to withdraw the levies on their products since these are meant for the common man who cannot afford gold ornaments.

A Malabar Gold Covering Association was formed by the merchants from Kozhikode, Malappuram, Kannur, Wayanad and Kasaragod at a convention held here.

Of special relevance

It was pointed out that gold-covered ornaments were of special relevance to the ordinary people owing to the steady rise in the price of gold.
