Three years’ RI for health centre clerk

CUTTACK: A State vigilance court has convicted a clerk of a community health centre on charges of acceptance and demand of illegal gratification of Rs 3000 and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for three years.

Sudam Pattanaik of Tentulikhunti CHC in Nawarangpur district was found guilty of accepting the gratification from one Sarbeswar Tripathy—a retired health worker, to process the latter’s pension papers way back in September 2006.

After completion of the trial recently, the court convicted and sentenced the clerk to undergo RI for one year and pay a fine of Rs 2000 for accepting illegal gratification. He was further sentenced to undergo RI for two years and pay a fine of Rs 3000 on charges of criminal misconduct by a public servant.

The substantive sentences shall run concurrently and in the default of paying the fine, the convict shall undergo RI for nine more months, said a vigilance directorate press release issued here on Monday.
