Kishen Reddy’s posers on civic issues

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Legislator G. Kishen Reddy debunked Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s 3-day city tour scheduled to begin from Tuesday as an appeasement feat with an eye on the coming GHMC elections.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, he challenged the Chief Minister to answer in public ten questions per day concerning various civic issues , to be released by him for the three consecutive days of the tour.

Releasing his first set of ten questions, Mr. Reddy asked the Chief Minister to announce his agenda for the city with regard to issues such as drinking water, sewerage network, traffic, GHMC funding, infrastructural development, and power cuts etc. .

‘Election stunt’

“The Chief Minister promises to turn the city into another Shanghai but hardly any improvement works have been taken up during the last five years of his rule. In the past, I asked him a number of times to tour the city — something he has not done so far. The three-day tour now is nothing but an election stunt,” Mr. Reddy said.

He challenged the Chief Minister to travel from Somajiguda to Hitec City like an ordinary citizen to know the traffic problems . Removal of silt from the storm water drains, which should have been part of annual maintenance works, has not been done for five years, alleged Mr. Reddy with reference to the problem of inundation. He also sought to know the reasons for halting the Krishna Drinking Water Project Phase-III and non-allocation of funds for bringing Godavari river water to the city.

He touched upon the delay in the completion of ORR Phase-I and P.V. Narasimha Rao Expressway works and termed the stagnation in Metro Rail Project as government’s failure.

Other questions pertained to lack of funds for the GHMC, status of various projects pollution etc.
