Bangalore: The Ashok Nagar police arrested a 45-year-old man here on Sunday who had allegedly cheated several youngsters by promising jobs abroad. Sanjay Rana Thakur alias Sanjay Singh alias Shekar Singh, who was residing in Koramangala, claimed to be an ex-serviceman and also a Chief Executive Officer of a U.S.-based company CVS Technologies. The accused allegedly collected huge sums of money from a large number of unemployed youngsters by promising jobs in the U.S. Apart from money he had also collected passports, marks sheets, and other testimonials from the victims. The police have confiscated a fake identity card of Indian Army, PAN cards, laptops, passports, Visas and other documents from the accused. The accused used to browse job sites, picking his victims carefully, mostly women. He used to book rooms in posh hotels and call them for interviews, during the course of which he would collect sums ranging from Rs. 35,000 and 70,000 from each, the police said. The law caught up with him when he allegedly defrauded a girl, collecting Rs. 70,000 from her and her passport. He told her he had arranged a job for her in the U.S. and that she should come to the BIA. In the last week of May, the girl went to the BIA and waited all day for him. On July 1 she lodged a case of cheating with the Koramangala police.
