Five held on hunting charge
HYDERABAD: Five men from Aghapura who went out hunting in the forest area of Kanakamamidi village of Moinabad on the city outskirts, were arrested by the Moinabad police on Monday.
Two company-made guns -- one with a double barrel and the other with a single barrel -- were seized from them along with 10 birds which they shot down using the firearms. The arrested were A.M. Qasim, 36, Jamir Ali, 25, Khaiser Ali, 28, Farooq Ahmed, 57, and Rafeeq Hussain, 30.
Qasim told the police that he had a weapon licence and bought the two weapons legally. However, the Moinabad police said that even those with a licence were not supposed to use the weapons for hunting, which was illegal under the Forest Act.
Villagers alerted the police about the hunting after hearing gun shots in the morning. When the police rushed there, the five members tried to flee, but were caught after a chase.
