VELLORE: Collector C. Rajendran has appealed to the district officials to consider public grievances day camps as opportunities to serve the public, and redress their grievances with sincerity. Presiding over a camp held at Keezhpallippattu panchayat in Vellore taluk on Wednesday, Mr. Rajendran said that the officials should not rest content with giving replies to the petitions. Pattas would not be issued for lands that are water courses, and which might be under the occupation of the petitioners for several years. This was in view of the Supreme Court order that pattas should not be issued for lands which are waterbodies or water courses, even though they might be under the occupation of the claimants for several years. Referring to petitions for pattas from persons who were occupying such water courses for the last 20 years, Mr. Rajendran said that the district administration would allot alternative sites to them. He distributed welfare aid worth Rs. 30 lakh to 97 out of 286 persons, who had submitted petitions in advance. The aid included assistance for inter-caste marriages, iron boxes, sewing machines, group houses, agricultural inputs, family cards and free house site pattas. Mr. Rajendran received 309 petitions on the spot and forwarded them to the officials concerned. Mariam Farzana Sadiq, Assistant Collector (Training), P.S. Vijayakumar, Polur MLA, V.P.S. Kalaimani, chairman, Kaniyambadi panchayat union, Chamundeeswari Sivakumar, Panchayat Union council member, K. Ponnusamy, Revenue Divisional Officer, Vellore, Renuka Devi, president, Keezhpallipattu village panchayat, and Shanmugam, president of Mothakkal village panchayat, participated in the camp. T. Rajkumar, Vellore tahsildar, welcomed the gathering. S. Thangavelu, tahsildar (social security), proposed a vote of thanks.
