Tamil Nadu need not worry about Palar check dam: YSR

J. Balaji

“It is a small project. Whatever we are doing we are doing so within our limits”

NEW DELHI: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy assured the people of Tamil Nadu that they need not worry about the construction of a check dam by Andhra Pradesh across Palar river in Ganeshpuram in Chittoor district.

The water to be stored there was meagre and not even half-a-thousand million cubic feet, he said.

Andhra Pradesh was acting within the frame work of rules and the Constitution and “we will not do anything illegal.”

The government would act within its rights and not behave in a high handed manner. “It is a small project. Whatever we are doing we are doing so within our limits,” he said and added that the Tamil Nadu government was under pressure as the opposition parties had been raising this issue.

If the Tamil Nadu government felt that the Andhra Pradesh government’s action was not proper they could approach the Centre and the Central Water Commission and ask them to inspect the site.

“We are ready to abide by their decisions,” he said.
