Start: Hassan Zilla Panchayat president Lokanath inaugurating a State-level training camp at Nehru Yuva Kendra in Hassan on Friday. HASSAN: Hassan Zilla Panchayat president Lokanath has advised the youth to remove caste barriers to ensure peace in society. He was speaking after inaugurating the weeklong State-level training camp at Nehru Yuva Kendra here on Friday. Stressing the need for conserving forests, Mr. Lokanath advised the youth to plant trees. He told the participants to educate people in rural areas on the importance of ensuring personal hygiene and keeping the environment clean. The camp is being organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra, Hassan zone, and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sanghatane, Bangalore. Hassan City Municipal Council (CMC) president Nethravathi Girish advised the participants to make best use of the camp. She wanted them to create awareness in rural areas against social evils and superstition. CMC vice-president C.R. Shankar wanted the youth to work towards maintaining communal harmony. Coordination Officer of Nehru Yuva Kendra, Hassan, M.N. Nataraj recalled the contribution of the former Union Minister for Youth Services and Sports, the late Sunil Dutt, in creating awareness among youth against superstition and communalism. The Nehru Yuva Kendra was working to popularise rural arts and sports, he said and added that it was also providing training to unemployed youth in villages. AIR Executive Officer Srinivas and industrialist Mahaveer Bansali also spoke.
