Mural art workshop begins at Aranmula

ART FOR ART’S SAKE: A view of the State-level mural art workshop, jointly organised by the State-run Vasthu Vidya Gururkulam and Guruvayur-based Mammiyur Krishnankutty Nair Asan Foundation, at the Gurukulam complex at Aranmula on Friday.

PATHANAMTHITTA: A three-day State-level workshop on mural art, jointly being organised by the State-run Vasthu Vidya Gururkulam and the Guruvayur-based Mammiyur Krishnankutty Nair Asan Foundation, had a solemn start at the Gurukulam Art Gallery premises at Aranmula on Friday.

Renowned Malayalam poet and academic D. Vinayachandran inaugurated the workshop by lighting a ceremonial lamp. K.C. Rajagopalan, MLA, presided over the inaugural function. The poet also rendered a poem on Lord Ganesha on the occasion.

Gurukulam vice-chairman Louba Schild from France who has been running a centre for promotion of art and culture of Kerala in Aranmula since the past three decades, delivered the keynote address.

P.N. Suresh, Gurukulam Executive Officer, and K.R. Babu of Mahi-based Malayala Kala-Gramom also addressed the meeting.

Suresh Muthukulam, Gurukulam mural artist, introduced the artists participating in the event.

K.R. Babu, Saju Thuruthil of Sree Sankara Sanskrit University; Ajithan Puthumana of Sree Sanskrit Sanskrit University, cine artist Basanth Peringod and freelance artists Gopu Chovayur, Krishnan Mallisserry and Sadanandan are taking part in the workshop.

The workshop will conclude on July 19, Mr. Suresh said.
