MANGALORE: The stay order of the Karnataka High Court addressed to the Deputy Commissioner of Udupi district has landed the District Administration of Dakshina Kannada in a piquant situation. Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner V. Ponnuraj had appointed Assistant Commissioner Prabhulinga Kavalikatti as the Asministrator of the Karnad Sadashiva Memorial Trust from June 26 as the trust had violated the conditions under which a land had been provided to it. The trust had constructed a commercial complex in the name former legislator K.K. Shetty whereas the land measuring 0.28 acres had been given for constructing an office for the K.S. Rao Memorial Trust. The district administration had stated that it had been receiving complaints since 2006 from the people on this issue. Mr. Ponnuraj had ordered a probe and served a notice that there was a clear violation of conditions. Gunasheela Ballal, secretary of Karnad Sadashiva Rao Memorial Trust had sought a stay on the appointment of Mr. Kavalikatt as administrator of the turst. The High Court issued a stay order addressed to the Deputy Commissioner of Udupi District. Speaking to The Hindu in-charge Deputy Commissioner S.A. Prabhakar Sharma said: “We had executed a caveat stating that the district administration should be informed before granting a stay on the order. But the caveat was not reflected in the case as the High Court had issued a stay order addressing it to the Udupi Deputy Commissioner.” Mr. Sharma said that he had forwarded the stay order to the Deputy Commissioner of Udupi district.
