VISAKHAPATNAM: Employees and officers of various banks in the country will go on a nation-wide strike on August 6 and 7 to protest against the “undue delay” in the revision of salaries pending since November 2007, general secretary of All India State Bank Officers’ Federation G.D. Nadaf said at a media conference here on Friday. He was here in connection with the 29th General Body Meeting of SBI Officers Association, Hyderabad Circle, to be held here on Saturday and Sunday. The Indian Banks Association and the Government had kept the salary revision proposal in cold storage. The IBA, at the instance of the Government, has now reduced its earlier offer on salary revision from 17.5 per cent to 15 per cent. The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), an umbrella organisation of nine unions, has given the strike call. The federation was also opposed to the merger and acquisition of Associate banks. It favoured nationalisation of private sector banks. Mr. Nadaf demanded regulated working hours for officers and recruitment of adequate number of officers and staff. He said that officers were being forced to work even on Sundays and holidays. Recruitment has not been done for over a decade and only last year clerks were recruited. The strength of officers had remained static. General secretary of SBI Officers Association (Hyderabad Circle) D. Krishna Kumar, its president V. Venkataramana Reddy and deputy general secretary S.N. Sahu were present.
