SALEM: Students should be well aware of environment-related issues by enriching their knowledge in the relevant field, said N. N. Raghavachari, Senior General Manager (HR), Lucas-TVS Limited, Chennai. Inaugurating the The Hindu Business Line Club at the Vysya Institute of Management Studies here on Saturday, Mr. Raghavachari stressed on important factors such as threat perceptions and diseases outbreak due to environmental degradation and its resultant pollution in water bodies and the atmosphere. Making an electronic presentation on ‘Environment’, he said that though awareness was catching up among youth, it needed to be reoriented and focused. He further pointed out that young people must be made to understand the vital importance of safeguarding the environment. Various types of pollution including smog, and those affecting water and air were dealt with in detail. Mr. Raghavachari said that the depletion of the ozone zone had prompted the policy makers to take various safeguards such as reducing chlorofluorocarbons (CFC). He described the links between environment degradation and tsunamis and other natural disasters. He called upon the students to take steps to preserve the environment so that the earth could be saved.Splitting the hour-long session into two halves, one on environment and the other on ‘Corporate Expectations’, the Human Resources Manager asked the students of management to select a career and then plan accordingly for a successful one. Insisting that they should be well versed with financial matters, he asked them to read financial dailies every day, so that they could keep remain up-to-date on various matters. This was because industry needed employees with good communication skills, tolerance, interpersonal skill and positive attitude. “Positive attitudes such as ethical values, proper judgment and high standards will transform one into a wholesome product,” he said..
