Basu may be discharged tomorrow

KOLKATA: Veteran Marxist leader Jyoti Basu is “progressing well” and he could be discharged from hospital on Monday after a final review of his health, hospital authorities said on Saturday.

Mr. Basu was admitted to the hospital on July 12 after he fell unconscious at his Salt Lake residence.

A medical bulletin issued by the hospital authorities on Saturday stated that the seven-member-medical board, constituted to monitor Mr. Basu’s treatment, reviewed his condition and found that the potassium-sodium balance in his body was within normal limit.

Mr. Basu was taking adequate food and had a good night’s sleep on Friday, the statement said.
