PUDUKOTTAI: The Federation of Consumer Organisations, Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry (FEDCOT) has urged the Tamil Nadu government to take immediate steps for filling up the vacancies of presidents of district consumer disputes redressal for speedy disposal of consumer cases. A resolution in this regard was passed at the state general body meeting of the FEDCOT held here on Sunday under the chairmanship of P. Duraisingam, chairman of FEDCOT. The federation had also requested the government to create a ‘Consumer Protection Department’ for the welfare of consumers. Full supportBy a resolution, the federation had decided to extend its full support for the government’s efforts to eliminate bogus family cards in the State. The federation requested for the provision of fertiliser subsidy directly to the farmers raising the agricultural crops with organic manure. Medical collegesThe federation urged the government to take immediate steps fill up the vacancies of doctors and para medical staff in the government hospitals and initiate steps for starting government medical colleges in all the districts. The meeting also urged the government to take quick steps for removing the encroachments in all the irrigation sources of lakes and tanks for storing full quantity of water. New office-bearersThe following were elected office-bearers of the FEDCOT for the three-year term from 2009 to 2012 at the general body meeting: Prof. R. Kaladharan of Nagapattinam, Chairman; S. Dhanavelu, general secretary; N. Jayakanthan, treasurer, G. Venkatachalam and S. Adaikalam, vice-presidents and K. Mahabubunnisa and R. Helenbaby, joint secretaries.
