CHENNAI: The Tamilnadu Cooperative Union (TNCU) will offer degree courses in various disciplines from the academic year 2009-10 under a tie-up with Bharathiar University, Coimbatore.

Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) inked between the two institutions, the 20 Institute of Cooperative Management facilities will now offer regular programmes in MBA, MCA, BBM, B.Com., and B.Sc. catering science and hotel management that will have an in-built curriculum in cooperative management.

P.Thirumalvalavan, Registrar of Bharathiar University, signed the MoU and R.Rajendran, Special Officer, TNCU in the presence of G.Thiruvasagam, Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiar University and Jatindra Nath Swain, Registrar of Cooperative Societies.

This also follows an announcement in the Assembly by Cooperation Minister Ko.Si.Mani that new courses would be launched at the institutes run by the TNCU.

The Vice-Chancellor said the courses would be offered with concessions.

According to Mr.Rajendran, admissions would commence soon for the first batch of these courses.

The tie-up will also enable the TNCU to put to better use its infrastructure at institutes of cooperative management, where takers for the diploma course in cooperative management had been on a declining trend over the past few years.

The institutes are located at Nagercoil, Sivagangai, Villupuram, Namakkal, Dindigul, Tiruchirappalli, Tiruvarur, Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Dharmapuri, Tiruvannamalai, Erode, Andippati, Thanjavur, Tirunelveli, Salem, Madurai, Sattur and Coimbatore.
