Death toll goes up

SALEM: The death toll in the Jalakandapuram gas cylinder explosion rose to three as one of the injured died at a hospital here on Wednesday.

The explosion took place in a house located near the Kalakandapuram bus stand a few weeks ago. Alagurajan (65), a retired teacher, died on the spot and six others sustained injuries. Soundappan (20), an engineering student who succumbed to wounds in the last week. On Wednesday, Kannammal (64), wife of Alagurajan died at the hospital. Jalakandapruram police registered a case and were investigating it.

Woman killed

A woman was killed when a private bus hit a moped in Karuppur near here on Tuesday.

Police said Parasuraman (30), a resident of Kommaipalayam Puthur in Dharmapuri district and his relative Kanthamani (36) were on the way to Salem, when the accident took place. Kanthamani died on the spot. Prasuraman was admitted to a hospital.
