Bodies of missing fishermen washed ashore

C. Jaishankar

RAMANATHAPURAM: The bodies of seven fishermen from Rameswaram, missing since July 15, were washed ashore on different shores of Sri Lanka.

Collector T.N. Hariharan told The Hindu here on Wednesday that he had received information from the Fisheries Department that three bodies had been sighted at Punkudi Theevu near Jaffna and one at Ezhavu Theevu. One more body had been washed ashore at Neduntheevu near Talaimannar and two more at Velanai Theevu.

Based on the inputs given by fellow fishermen, the bodies could be that of missing fishermen. Out of eight fishermen, one had been identified as Ashok Kumar of Dhanushkodi. His body was located at the 5th islet.
