Mass contact programmes evoke good response

ARIYALUR: The special mass contact programmes have evoked good response in Ariyalur district as large number of villagers submitted petitions seeking assistance under various schemes, said R. Pichai, Collector in charge, here on Wednesday.
Presiding over the special mass contact programme convened by him at Thular in Sendurai taluk, he said that he had instructed officials to take action within a week on the petitions submitted at these programmes and also at the public grievance day meetings being conducted every Monday in the district headquarters.
Fair price shops
He said that he had received several petitions for opening more fair price shops in the villages and pointed out that new fair price shops could be opened only as per the norms of the government and opening of additional fair price shop could be considered if more than 500 cardholders split from the parent fair price shop.
Mr. Pichai distributed welfare assistance worth Rs.3.98 lakh to 79 beneficiaries at the meeting.
He distributed widow pension to 44 persons, old age pension to eight agricultural labourers, agricultural implements to eight farmers and identity cards to 12 beneficiaries through TAHDCO.
