700 cattle get treatment in veterinary camp

Care for all: Collector M. Chandrasekar, giving medicine to a cow at a veterinary camp organised in Ogai Perayur on Wednesday.

TIRUVARUR: Ogai Peraiyur in Needamangalam taluk in Tiruvarur district was a hub of activity on Wednesday. Nearly 700 cattle were brought by the villagers to the veterinary camp conducted in the village.

Veterinary doctors and higher officials of the Animal Husbandry Department examined the animals, treated them for black quarter disease.

De-worming was also done. Poultry vaccination was done to hundreds of chicken.

Even as veterinary camp was going on, medical camps were conducted for the benefit of villagers and agriculture camps were conducted for the farmers.

Mini exhibitions were organised by the Veterinary Department in which Japan quills, Turkey and other birds were displayed.

Endoscopy was done to detect worms in calves and treatment was given.

The camp was the brain child of Collector M. Chandrasekaran.

He has instructed officials to organise such camps and exhibition for the benefit of people in villages where Anaithu Grama Anna Marumlarchi Thittam is implemented. The Collector said that 700 cattle were treated in the camp.

One hundred and forty eight persons were examined in the medical camp.

The collector distributed spades and crow bars to farmers. He distributed 48 spectacles to people.

Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam is implemented in 87 villages this year in the district.

Annamalai Premkumar, Project Officer, DRDA and M. Palaniappan, Joint director of Animal Husbandry, participated.
