Over 10,000 I-T returns filed at ICF counter

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: In the last two days, the Income Tax Department collected more than 10,000 returns at its Special Return Receipt Counters in Integral Coach Factory (ICF).

It expects to collect almost equal number of returns at the special counters to be set up at the Southern Railway headquarter in the next two days, an IT official said.

With only seven working days left for filing returns, the Income Tax Department would open Special Return Receipt Counters at Aayakar Bhavan, Nungambakkam, from July 27 to 31.

An official release issued on Wednesday said that during these days, 41 special counters for salaried assessees and 15 counters for non-salaried assessees would function from 9.45 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. each day. There would be an exclusive counter for senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

At Aayakar Bhavan, the UTISL would also operate a PAN counter. Help desks would be set up to answer general queries, supply return forms and verify PAN, among other things.

Tax-payers have been advised to mention their correct PAN, address, bank account number, MICR code in the return. Returns without PAN would not be accepted.

They should also fill the Tax Deduction Account Number (TAN) of the employer in their returns. The words “Refund Due” should be written on the first page of the return for expeditious issue of refunds.

The salaried tax-payers of Tambaram Income Tax and Kancheepuram Income Tax offices could also file their returns at special counters in Nungambakkam. Tambaram and Kancheepuram offices would also continue to receive the returns, the release said.
