BOOKS GALORE: Nearly three lakh titles have been showcased at the exhibition that opened at Anna University on Wednesday. — CHENNAI: A three-day book exhibition specifically for engineering students was inaugurated at the Anna University by Vice Chancellor P. Mannar Jawahar, on Wednesday. The exhibition features a collection of close to three lakh titles. About 50 booksellers and publishing houses have set up stalls. The focus is on science and technology and a majority of the titles are on engineering and allied engineering subjects. G. Haresh, a third year manufacturing engineering student, said: “Though I usually get books from a book bank, book exhibitions offer rare titles and it is easier to get technical books directly from the publishers.” According to M. Shekar, Dean of the College of Engineering Guindy, book exhibitions on campuses also make it easier for the faculty to recommend quality books for the college library. “There are expensive reference books that an engineering student might need, but would not be able to afford. Exhibitions offer a forum for the faculty to recommend the latest editions of good reference texts to the library,” he said. Books will be offered at a discounted rate for students. The exhibition will be open between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. till Friday.
