Call to make mammography test mandatory

Staff Reporter

Thrissur: In view of increasing number of breast cancer cases, mammography should be made mandatory along with the routine tests for women above 45, oncologist Dr. V.P. Gangadharan has said.

He was addressing a function organised by Jubilee Mission Medical College on Thursday in connection with a month-long breast cancer awareness programme in Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram districts.

“Research has shown that there is an annual increase of five per cent in the number of breast cancer cases. In Kerala, every third woman with cancer suffers from breast cancer.”

He advised women to adopt the habit of self-examination.
