THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government is planning to bring about changes in the textbook preparation and publishing system, Education Minister M.A. Baby has said. Mr. Baby said in a written reply in the Assembly on Thursday that a textbook commission and a separate publishing wing were planned by the government. Local Administration Minister Paloli Mohammed Kutty said that 44 local self-government institutions had abattoirs, but only 20 of them had been certified by the Kerala State Pollution Control Board. A civic body will have to spend Rs.3 crore for setting up a slaughterhouse as per the prescribed standards and will have to expend a substantial sum for maintenance. The government has directed all civic bodies to set up abattoirs. A law for refuse management has been prepared by the government. The Local Administration Department will look into the difference in meat prices, he said. Minister for Fisheries and Registration S. Sarma said the government had appointed additional chief secretary P. Prabhakaran to study the problems being faced by fish peeling workers.
