Petition dismissed in High Court

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd. has defended before the Karnataka High Court the evacuation of power from power stations by private entrepreneurs.

KPTCL made this submission when the High Court was hearing a petition by several persons of Udupi district challenging the decision of AMR Power, a private company, to acquire their lands for construction of transmission towers to evacuate power from the power station.

Right

The petitioners said no private company had the right to set up transmission and distribution towers and that this power is vested with KPTCL only. They urged the court to set aside the acquisition of their lands. KPTCL said it had permitted AMR to draw up the transmission network, apart from asking it to evacuate power (way clearance). It said AMR had paid the necessary fees and that it could not be prevented from evacuating power.

Justice Ajit Gunjal dismissed the petition.
