THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Assembly on Friday witnessed heated exchanges between the treasury benches and the Opposition and a walkout by the latter over what they termed “total failure of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government to check the terror threat faced by the State.” The Opposition, which sought leave for an adjournment motion on the subject, came down heavily on the government accusing it of having pushed under the carpet sensitive information about the terror network in Kerala on the eve of the Lok Sabha elections on account of its tie-up with the Peoeple’s Democratic Party (PDP) led by Abdul Nasir Maudany. The arrest of Abdul Halim in connection with the bomb blasts at the Ernakulam collectorate had revealed his close links with Mr. Maudany and the absconding Thadiyantavide Naseer of Kannur, who was the main recruiting agent for terror outfits at the national level, the Opposition alleged. Seeking leave for the motion, K. Babu (Congress) said the interrogation of Halim had revealed several sensitive details about the terror links in the State and almost all of these led to Mr. Maudany, who was an ally of the CPI(M) in the Lok Sabha polls. Deputising for Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Vijayakumar said there was no political intervention in the investigations into terrorism-linked case.
