Commemoration: Thrissur Archbishop Mar Andrews Thazhathu inaugurates programmes to observe the golden jubilee of the “Liberation Struggle” at Ollur on Saturday. Thrissur: Thrissur Archbishop Mar Andrews Thazhathu has said that it was undoubtful that liberation struggle would re-emerge in any context of misrule and denial of rights. He was inaugurating at Ollur on Saturday various programmes to mark the golden jubilee of the “Liberation Struggle,” a series of events that culminated in the dismissal of the first Communist government in Kerala led by E. M. S. Namboodiripad in 1959. “Those who propagate a culture of agitation get agitated when there are agitations against them. But our struggle is to uphold rights and human values,” he said. He said that liberation struggle was a continual process. “The Catholic Church had never regretted the Liberation Struggle. History shows that Liberation Struggle had saved the State.” Atheists had continually insulted priests and nuns, the Archbishop said. “Textbooks distort history. The standard of education is on the decline. It will lead to loss of values.” Observance of the golden jubilee began with the Archbishop paying floral tribute at the memorial lamp of the Liberation Struggle at Father Vadakkan Nagar.
