Football tourney kicked off

KORAPUT: The K.P. Verghese and Ishwar Rao Memorial Football Tournament, organised by Town Sports Club of Sunabeda in the HAL stadium was inaugurated by A.K. Aseri, AGM, HAL, on Saturday. As many as 18 teams are taking part.

Young volunteers from Gopobandhu Seva Samiti under the leadership of Bhavani Shankar Mishra, an ex-serviceman, carried out a massive plantation drive near the UP School at Pujariput in Koraput on Saturday. Children from Vikash Vidyalaya of Gandhi Nagar too planted saplings.

An exhibition for creating awareness on different programmes initiated for public welfare by the State government was inaugurated by Gadadhar Parida , the District Collector of Koraput in the weekly market at Dumuriput on Saturday. Street play by Pradeep, an NGO of Sunabeda and Palla by Bichitrananda Behera and team, were also organised to sensitise people on different developmental issues. Prafulla Chandra Mallik, DIPRO was also present.
