Assumes office

Special Correspondent

Udhagamandalam: Hailing from Nagpur and having served as the Superintendent of Police in Pudukottai and Kanyakumari districts, 31-year-old Kapil Kumar C. Saratkar on Saturday assumed charge as the 83rd Superintendent of Police of the Nilgiris district. He succeeds A.G. Babu who has been posted as the SP, Krishnagiri.

Speaking to newspersons, Mr. Saratkar said that ensuring smooth flow of traffic here will be high on his list of priorities.

Since this hill station was a vacation destination, traffic management will be given due importance.

Adverting to the location of the district, he said that since it was at the tri-junction of three states, a close watch would be kept on areas along the border.

Steps will be taken to ensure that the district remained illicit liquor free, he said.
