Chief Minister to launch health insurance scheme BPL families will be covered up to Rs. 2 lakh BELLARY: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa will launch “Suvarna Arogya Suraksha”, a health insurance scheme, at the BDAA grounds here on August 1. Speaking to presspersons here on Saturday, Deputy Commissioner B. Shivappa said the scheme was aimed at providing health insurance cover to five members in each family living below the poverty line. It would entitle them to treatment in recognised hospitals with an upper expenditure limit of Rs. 2 lakh. The costs of consultation, tests and surgery would be covered, he added. The State Government would pay a premium of Rs. 300 a family, he said and added that there were around 2.48 lakh BPL families in the district. Mr. Shivappa said the Government would soon come out with a list of hospitals that had been recognised under the scheme. The Director of the Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences, Devanand, who was present, said the inaugural function would be followed by a health check-up programme .
