MADURAI: A total of 3.13 lakh free colour television sets had been distributed so far in the district, said Madurai Collector N. Mathivanan. Speaking at a mass contact programme at Kalapanpatti in Perayur taluk, he said that the officials had been giving away colour television sets to all the eligible persons. As and when the consignments were received, they were distributed and clarified that there need not be any apprehension. The officials had so far received 3.17 lakh sets from the government and given away 3.13 lakh sets. Explaining the salient features of the mass contact programme, Mr. Mathivanan said that instead of the aggrieved persons visiting the officials, the district administration reached out to the masses. After receiving the petitions, they were attended to on the spot. This was welcomed by the people as they were informed about the status of their grievance at once. Out of the 149 petitions received from the villagers, 72 were taken up, while 37 had to be examined and 40 petitions were rejected.
