Raichur
Raichur: Water was released from the Tungabhadra reservoir into the Tungabhadra Left Bank Canal (TLBC) on Saturday so as to facilitate farmers to take up sowing of kharif crops in the command areas of Koppal and Raichur districts. The water supply will continue till mid-November. The water was also released into the Tungabhadra Right Bank High Level Canal (RBHLC) on Saturday so that farmers in the command areas in Bellary district and parts of Andhra Pradesh can start sowing kharif crops. The supply will continue till November-end. The storage at the Tungabhdra dam has reached 1,632.48 ft. as against its Full Reservoir Level of 1,633 ft with a gross storage of 102.28 tmcft as against the available capacity of 111.10 tmcft. As on Sunday, the inflow into the Tungabhadra reservoir was at the rate of 40,000 cusecs. The water from the reservoir is being released since Saturday at the rate of 28,545 cusecs, including the river and canal discharge. According to official sources, with an initial discharge at the rate of 100 cusecs on Saturday, the discharge into the TLBC has now been increased to 2,000 cusecs and it will be further increased at 3,100 cusecs in the next two days. It was expected that the water in the canal would reach its tail-end (141st mile in Raichur taluk) within a week’s time. The Raichur district administration has been requested to extend its cooperation to impound water into the balancing reservoir (located on 98th mile stretch of the TLBC) near Raichur so as to facilitate the augmentation of drinking water supply to Raichur city. The Tungabhadra Left Bank Ccanal has a command area of more than 1.30 lakh hectares in Raichur district.
