PALAKKAD: A 21-day-long ‘Rhythm Therapy’ organised by percussionist Kuzhalmannam Ramakrishnan in association with the Centre of Music concluded at Nandavanam Hospital, Ottappalam, on Sunday.

The Guinness world record holding mridangam artiste said the ‘Rhythm Therapy’ was done on an experimental basis to find its effect on the patients. A team of doctors were studying the effect of the therapy on those with mental tension and others including heart patients.

Mr. Ramakrishnan said all the records of the ‘Rhythm Therapy’ would be sent to the authorities of the Guinness Book of World Records.

He said that in the therapy ‘Adithalam’ was used mostly because it had influenced the patients more than any other ‘thalas.’ He used ‘thalas’ in low-pitch mridangam.

“Rhythm is the basic structure of the universe. It transcends our day today life and accompanies us throughout our journey. In fact, there is clear evidence that when the rhythm of a system is lost, the whole system is distracted,” Mr. Ramakrishnan said.

The valedictory function was inaugurated by Ottappalam municipal chairman Ramraj and presided over by Dr. Anandamohan.

The programme concluded with a Veena recital by Geetha Krishnamurthy.
