State-level meeting of milk producers held Farmers told to rear more cows
Former director of Animal Husbandry Vasireddy Narayana Rao addressing the State-level milk producers’ meeting in Ongole on Sunday. — ONGOLE: Andhra Pradesh rytu sangham has demanded that the Government provide more milch animals on subsidy under Pasukranti scheme to increase milk production in the State. Addressing State-level meeting of milk producers held here on Sunday, senior leader Kolli Nageswara Rao said that as the government did not give any incentives to producers, milk production remained stagnant in the State. The government was sanctioning only 200 milch animals per mandal on subsidy which is inadequate, he felt. He demanded sanction of milch animals to all farmers who owned five acres of land. Similarly, the government should give incentives for fodder production. He said that the milk factories fixed price for milk on the basis of its fat content. But they take away most of the fat and supply low fat or no fat milk to consumers garnering profits. Former director of animal husbandry, Vasireddy Narayana Rao said that cows yielded more milk than buffaloes and cow milk is as nutritious as mother milk. He wanted farmers to rear more cows and increase milk production. Though there used to be cows and buffaloes in every rural household before, the stock is declining now mainly due to lack of incentives. Ravula Venkaiah presided. Representatives from private and cooperative dairies attended.
