Violence mars bank elections

Staff Reporter

Thrissur: Violence marred the elections to the director board of the Porkkulam Service Cooperative Bank here on Sunday. A Congress panel, led by M.S. Paul, won the elections. “The CPI(M) wanted to seize control of the bank. Fearing defeat, the party unleashed violence,” Mr. Paul alleged.

The police said no case had been filed because the bank did not lodge a complaint. Last week, the High Court had directed the police to ensure peaceful polling.
